Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. James 4:13-14

Ok .. so, yes, it was a catastrophe for me, but in all honesty, it really isn’t that big of a deal. A couple of weeks ago, we discovered that …

our dishwasher had quit cleaning the dishes. We decided that we would just replace it as it was 10 years old and had been used on a daily basis and we had all ready replaced the pump on it a few years back. No Big Deal – other than the money we had saved was not intended for a new dishwasher. We ordered a new one and pulled the old one out only to find that it had been leaking for quite some time. It had rotted out the cabinets on both sides. AND the floor underneath. So we are now in the process of trying to remodel our kitchen. While I am excited, I am also overwhelmed. This was not in the plans, nor was it in the budget, but it has to be fixed. I am excited to be getting a new look in the kitchen and update the style.  So many decisions though …

God’s word keeps ringing loud and clear in my head to be content with what I have. I am really trying hard to meditate on that, especially during the moments when I am making decisions that will cost money. James 4:13-14 further clarifies the need to be content as we are only here for a short while and we really don’t know what tomorrow brings. While I would love to have a complete new set of kitchen cabinets in a stain / color that is perfect with great molding and all the bells and whistles… I really don’t need that. And besides, trends change constantly and how long would it be before my tastes change and I want something different.

For now, I am trying to way out my options and come up with solutions that are on the cheaper side of life but are of good quality that will last for years to come and will be easy to update. I have to admit I love Pinterest and all of you who post your DIY projects. Thanks for sharing all of your ideas and pictures! I am scouring the internet for my dream kitchen and will narrow it down to the bare necessities that I just can’t live without.
