“But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.” 1 Corinthians 14:40 NIV
January has been a very busy month of planning for me. I set it aside to gather my thoughts, my goals and my to-do’s. I honestly believe that planning makes life easier and smoother; but, it is a difficult task to stay on top of because it takes time and it is, at least for me, an acquired skill.
I found two great devotions on being organized and think they are both worth reading a couple of times. First, Devotions From The Heart, by Rose Johnson and the second, A Clean Heart, by Amy Verlennich. Both of these focus on the scripture 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the God of disorder but of peace…” (Thank You to these authors for sharing!)
Disorganization in our homes and lives tend to cause a state of chaos and confusion within us – and I don’t know about you – but that is frustration for me. Sadly, it doesn’t stop there either, it continues to trickle into every aspect of our lives and it shows in our attitudes. How can I be a light to others if it is hidden by all the mess around me and in me?
When we are organized, we know what needs to happen … we have focus and are able to get things done. Planning and scheduling help us to organize our time and thoughts, have focus and put things in perspective. Our focus can then be on God and we will be open to His word, His plan, and His joy.
I have found several “tools” if you will, to help me out with my planning and my list making –
- Prayer with God and meditation in His word
- My handy dandy Composition Book and Sharpie pens – of course
- Google Calendar (I like it because I have an Android phone and they play well together.)
- GTasks App – basically, it is an app for Google Tasks for my phone. It is great for checking and unchecking items.
- PepperPlate – an online menu planner, recipe box and grocery list. (I have also used Cozi and it is great too).
These “tools” have helped me to get focused in many aspects of my life and has reduced my stress about all the things that need to be done. I don’t feel as rushed and I am not constantly forgetting this and that. I feel as though my life is in an orderly way and I am overflowing with God’s joy. I can also see this as a reflection in my husband as well, which also comes back to me as a blessing. What else is there to say but GOD IS GOOD!
